Wednesdays 7:15 pm - 8:45 pm
Most Wednesdays during the regular season we meet downstairs in our church "library" to study the Bible and spend some time in prayer & praise. Bible Study is open to all youth and adults. Join us for an illuminating and instructional time as we read God's Word and discuss its application to our lives.
Presently, we are working our way through the book of Jude in the Bible (the 2nd last book in the Bible!). Jude starts off so excited about what God has done for us, and wants to talk more about that. But he has discovered that he has a fight on his hands. And the fight is not from the 'outside world'. Instead, some sneaky people have wormed their way into the life of the church and distorted the Good News of Jesus! His letter, although written nearly 2000 years ago, is right on target for our generation. How sad, that many of our 'Christian' leaders today do not know how to Biblically define what the Gospel is and how it applies to our lives today. So Jude is going to highlight the fight that the church must struggle with from within!
So here we go, verse by verse through Jude! Come join us! Wednesdays from 7:15 pm to 8:45 pm.
September 16th, 2015 .... Jude 1:1 .... Jude is Jesus' Half Brother
September 23rd, 2015 ... Jude 1:1-2 ... Look What God Has Done for Us!
September 30th, 2015 .... Jude 1:3 ... Contend for the faith!
October 7th, 2015 .... Jude 1:3-4 ... The Gospel is straight forward --- Christ died for our sins and was raised to life the third day. Since Christ died to remove our sin, we must not put sin back into our lives!
October 14th, 2015 .... Jude 1:5 ... If we twist the Gospel to justify our 'enjoyment' of immorality, do not call oneself a Christian. Jude uses an Old Testament story of saving God's people from slavery but then destroying those who embrace immorality.
October 21st, 2015 ... Jude 1:5 ... Even angels, who are eternally blessed in the presence of God, are eternally punished if they twist the blessing of God into feeling they have the right to sin and engage in immorality (see Genesis 6:1-8). An example to us to follow Jesus fully as our Lord!
November 4th, 2015 ... Jude 1:6 ... We re-examined how God judged the angels who were so blessed but decided to engage in rebellion and immorality, especially looking at Genesis 6:1-8. They are an example to us that we must not pervert God's grace for justification to be immoral!
November 11th, 2015 ... Jude 1:7 ... God judges immorality - the story of Sodom in Genesis 13-19 and Ezekiel 16:49-50.
November 18th, 2015 ... Jude 1:7 ... Immorality is a choice; immorality is called 'perversion' - lit. 'different flesh' because it is against God's design for us; perverting God's grace results in eternal punishment.
November 18th, 2015 ... Jude 1:8-9 ... Perverters of God's grace are 'dreamers' because they are disconnected from the reality of what their actions are doing to their bodies, because they think they do not have to answer to anyone, and because they feel they are 'untouchable' and 'invincible'. Not even the greatest angel Michael feels invincible dealing with the devil!
November 25th, 2015 ... Jude 1:10 ... Those perverting Gospel do not want to think through the implications of the Gospel because they are only interested in their own desires (eg. 1 Corinthians 6:11-20; 10:23-33; 1 Timothy 1:8-11; Galations 5:1-2, 6, 13).
December 2nd, 2015 ... Jude 1:11 ... Woe to those who have taken the way of Cain - doing 'religion' their own way.
December 9th, 2015 ... Jude 1:11 ... Woe to those who have wandered from righteousness like Balaam, who had to be restrained by a talking donkey!
December 16th, 2015 ... Jude 1:11 ... Part 2 of the story of Balaam ... greed and immorality.
January 6th, 2016 ... Jude 1:11 ... Korah rebels because he cannot be #1, but should have been privileged to be #2.
January 13th, 2016 ... Jude 1:12-13 ... Jude wants us to remove our blindfolds to see clearly the real character of those that pervert the true Gospel. These false teachers often appear articulate, successful, energetic, and full of promise, but they are self-centered and dead - dead twice!
